Rich text formatting in the header#99

Nolt has a clean and minimal visual appeal that I really like. That said, I think it would be great if we could add a bit more formatting options to the header area. At the most basic level, the options for rich text formatting would be great (e.g., size of font, type of font, bold, etc). The option to add a background image would be awesome too. Even when it comes to the logo, the ones I’ve uploaded look so tiny. Really, any ways to customize the appearance of the header area would be great (aside from the simple color themes already provided).

Thank you for your suggestions, Jonathan! The board description field already allows Markdown formatting (see attachment), but it’s not immediately apparent. This is something that definitely needs to be improved.

I’ve created separate posts for your other ideas:

  • Adjustable logo size #101
  • Header background image #102

A hint has been added to indicate that Markdown is supported. The feature request for buttons and shortcuts for rich text formatting is tracked here: #89

It looks like the description field has markdown, but not the title field. Also, the supported markdown elements are quite limited. For example, being able to make the title field a header element, or changing the font, would be a great feature to provide uniqueness and design to our boards.

Thank you for your feedback, Jonathan. To be honest, I’m hesitant to add more formatting options, given that there are already quite a few. Giving users too much power of the site’s user interface could result in a bevy of ugly pages that would have an overall negative impact on Nolt’s user experience and reputation (remember MySpace?). But I’m open to discussing new formatting options if you come up with a real-world example for the board description/header.
