Extra Page for Board Rules#38

There could be some extra page in the navbar that an Admin can present board rules or how must a user write a post (post template).

This extra page can contain: contact information to the admin or information about that board too.

I would love to hear more about the information that you would store on that page. What essential info are you missing on a board?

A post template should actually be redundant with custom fields. You can completely customize how your New Post form should look like by adding additional fields or modifying existing ones. Other writing rules can be added as placeholder text for example. Would that meet your needs?

You are absolutely right about post template.

For the information part, think boards as subreddit. Each subreddit in Reddit have some kind of rules & general information about that community & admin - mod names.

For example you can check right sidebar of: /news or /funny.

Maybe you can insert a sidebar to board homepages like subreddits instead of new page.

I’m suggesting this since, a user who visits a nolt board for the first time can feel some emptiness (I had).

By providing some information on the right sidebar of board, we can make them feel much more secure & guide them through to feedback process.

Of course, these are low priority requests.

Thanks for clarifying, Alpay. Isn’t that something that already could be achieved with the board description? It shows up right above the post list and can in principle hold any information. Links and Markdown are also supported in that field.

Yeah, after long thinking, i’m partly agree with you. Everything i said before can be done via board description section.

But, if you want to describe something which takes at least 10 line, it turns your feedback page to messy place like this <attachment>.

Of course, that is your product and your desicion. You like simple & clean solutions i guess :)

Thanks a lot for your input! The board description is currently capped at 140 characters to keep it clean and concise. Maybe if you could provide a real-world example, we could determine what the best solution would be.

The board description length limit has been increased, and more Markdown stylings are now allowed. These changes make the board header really flexible. See the example in the attachment 👇

I agree that some users may want to provide more in-depth rules on how their customers/colleagues should engage with the board. Another use case that I recently rolled out was a tutorial video explaining best practices for our board at my institute. However, embedding this video in the header wouldn’t be appealing. Having a separate and clean page devoted to whatever instructions, tutorials, or other helpful information would be another use case to consider.

I think many of us want to keep the header area clear and concise if possible.

Thank you a lot for your feedback, Jonathan! Nolt boards are designed to be very simple so that they’re intuitive for new users. Additional rules, if needed, can be added to the board header so that visitors can see it at first glance. In comparison, an extra page for instructions would be hidden behind a link that only a fraction of the visitors would click on it. And since Markdown is supported, it is possible to insert links to external resources such as videos or other helpful information. I believe that concise and to-the-point instructions have the best impact.
